Overview
The Goals feature allows super admins to set measurable learning targets for learners. Goals are made up of one or more categories, each configured to track either minutes or points. Once configured, goals can be assigned to individual learners, who can achieve them by completing topics or pathways linked to those categories.
Notes:
The Goals feature replaces the previous Continuing Education (CE, CPD, CLE) tracking method. You can manage CE requirements using this feature.
To use this feature, firstly ensure it is enabled in the Subscription area of your admin portal.
Key concepts
Categories
Must be created before creating any goals.
Each category tracks either minutes or points.
Categories must be linked to topics or pathways (via their Settings tab), with a defined number of minutes or points earned upon completion.
Goals
A goal contains:
Name (required)
Label (optional, used for reporting)
Description (optional)
Tracking Type (required): Minutes or points
Start Month (required): A chosen month of the year
Duration (required): 1 year, 2 years, or 3 years
Targets (required): One or more categories, each configured with the required minutes/points to complete
Note: Only Super admins can create and edit goals. You can edit goals at any time.
Editing an existing goal may change learners' achieved status. For example, lowering the target can mark previously incomplete learners as completed, while raising it can move achieved learners back to in progress.
Learner assignment
Currently, goals are assigned per learner by an admin via the learner's profile in admin. In the future, you will be able to assign or update goals via a CSV upload.
Learners achieve goals by completing topics or pathways that award the required minutes or points.
Team leaders can also view their team’s progress towards achieving goals.
Step 1: Setting up categories
Before you can create a goal, you need to set up one or more categories for the goal.
Each category related to a goal must be configured to have ‘Points’ or ‘Minutes’ enabled in the ‘Goals’ column. Only goals configured to track points or minutes can be used when defining a goal.
For more information about creating categories, click here.
Step 2: Creating a goal
Only Super admins can create goals. To add a new goal, follow these steps:
Go to Admin → Account → Goals.
Click the ‘I want to…’ and select Create goal.
Provide the goal information:
Name (required): Enter the name of the goal.
Description (optional): Enter a description of the goal.
Tracking Type (required): Select Minutes or Points.
Start Month (required): Select the month your goal period starts. The default setting is January.
Duration (required): Select the period the goal relates to. This can be 1, 2, or 3 years. The default setting is 1 year.
Label (optional): Enter a label for reporting purposes.
Targets (Categories) (required): Enable the relevant categories. Only categories with the same tracking type as the goal are available. Enter the required minutes or points for each enabled category.
Click Save.
Step 3: Linking categories to topics or pathways
To ensure a topic or pathway contributes to goal progress, assign one or more relevant categories to it from the Settings tab. For each category, specify the number of minutes or points the learner will earn upon completion.
For detailed steps on assigning categories, see the relevant support articles here:

Step 4: Assigning goals to learners and enrolling them in topics or pathways that support their goals
Goals cannot currently be assigned in bulk. They must be assigned individually.
To assign a goal to a learner, follow these steps:
Open the learner’s profile in admin.
Click Edit Goals under the ‘Goals’ panel.
Select one or more goals to assign.
Click Save.
To ensure learners can make progress toward goals:
Enrol learners in relevant topics or pathways OR
Ensure relevant topics or pathways are available to them for self‑enrolment via their catalogue.
Step 5: Monitoring goal progress
For admins
Admins can review progress in two places:
Learner profile (in Admin):
Navigate to the Goals tab for detailed progress for each assigned goal.
Analytics reports:
Goals Summary
Goals Targets
Goals Progress
Goals Achieved
For learners
Learners can view their own progress via their learner homepage on:
The Dashboard tab (under ‘Progress’)
The Profile tab (under the 'Goals')
For team leaders
Team leaders can view their team's progress on the Team tab of their learner homepage, under 'Goals'.
FAQs
How can I use the Goals feature to record continuing education (CPD, CLE)?
Use Goals to record and track continuing education, including CPD, CLE, CE points, hours, and other compliance-based requirements by:
Creating categories that represent your CE types (e.g. Ethics, Technical, General).
Creating a goal that defines the required minutes or points for each CE category.
Linking categories to topics or pathways, assigning the goal to learners, and enrolling those learners into the relevant topics or pathways.
Can I change a goal after learners have started working on it?
Yes. However, changes will not retroactively affect any learner who has already achieved the goal.
Why can’t I add certain categories to a goal?
Only categories with a matching tracking type (Minutes or Points) can be added. If a category has both Minutes and Points enabled or it has neither, the category won't be available to add to the goal.
What happens if I change a category’s tracking type?
A category's tracking type cannot be switched after it has been assigned to a goal.
Why is a learner not progressing toward their goal?
The most common reasons for this are:
They aren’t enrolled or able to self‑enrol in required topics/pathways.
The topics or pathways they’re enrolled in aren’t linked to a category associated with one of their goals.
The category doesn’t have defined minutes or points on the topic or pathway.
Can I disable the Goals feature in my portal?
Yes. The Goals feature is on by default in all portals, however, for some organisations, use of this feature may not be applicable and you might prefer to switch it off. To do this, navigate to Admin → Account → Subscription, locate the 'Goals' panel and switch the toggle off.

Troubleshooting
The following are scenarios you may encounter followed by steps to troubleshoot.
A category is not appearing to be enabled for a goal
Confirm the category has the corresponding tracking type enabled: minutes or points (at Admin → Account → Categories). Please note, one of these options must be enabled. If neither, both, or the incorrect tracking type are enabled, the category won't show when enabling categories for a goal.
Learner shows no progress
Confirm the learner is assigned the goal.
Check that each required category is linked to at least one topic or pathway.
Verify that the learner is enrolled in applicable topics or pathways or can self-enrol via their catalogue.
Goal isn’t appearing for assignment
Ensure the goal has been created.
Report data looks incorrect
Check that goals and categories are configured correctly.
Confirm that the applicable topics/pathways award the correct minutes or points.
