Our Branding support articles contain specific details around suggested image file types and dimensions where applicable. This article is for general branding advice.

Think about how fonts will look together

When choosing your body, instructional, and button fonts, consider how these will look together. Consistency aids readability and brand cohesion. As a general rule, try to use no more than two fonts.

Our main portal branding article explains these fonts in further detail.

Preview branding through the full user journey

Navigate as a learner through the platform and some of your topics and pathways to see how your chosen branding (colours, font, logo) appears in different contexts.

Consider rotating banner images if seasonal or campaign requirements change

Update your login background or homepage banners from time-to-time to keep the look fresh and engaging. This can be particularly relevant if learning initiatives, seasonal themes or particular campaigns arise.

Banner images should be clean with minimal clutter

Banner images throughout the learner homepage are overlaid with text, so avoid busy or cluttered designs that compete with the text. Aim for simple, balanced images that keep the text clear and readable.

Keep file sizes low for performance

Remember that smaller files help faster load times, especially for learners on mobile or slower connections. You can still achieve a polished look without making images too large.

Note: Branding images come with recommended dimensions - these are mentioned throughout our Branding help articles.

Communicate branding changes to learners

If your portal’s look changes significantly, send a brief note or announcement to learners pointing out “We’ve refreshed our look! Here’s what’s new.” That helps avoid confusion

Test on all devices

Preview your portal branding on desktop and mobile. Logos with fine detail or text-heavy banner images may look great on large screens but shrink or blur on phones.

Consider your branding across other mediums

You may like to consider if you want your portal branding to align with your other platforms. Using the same logo, highlight colour, and fonts across these helps learners instantly recognise your organisation and builds trust.

Tell your brand story visually

Branding goes beyond colours and logos - it tells people who you are. Use your login or homepage banner to highlight your mission or values, and update imagery occasionally to reflect key campaigns or milestones.
