The default language in Tribal Habits is English. The Learner (Explorer), Creator, and Admin areas of the platform all use English by default, and our ready-made training library is available in English only.
Tribal Habits also supports multiple languages for learners by localising the platform’s system interface. This allows learner-facing system text (such as navigation, buttons, prompts, and feedback) to be displayed in different languages on the learner homepage and within topics.
This article explains how language settings work across the platform, which languages are supported, and how you can combine the Language feature with your own multilingual training content to create a localised learning experience.
Note: Support for languages other than English currently applies only to learner-facing system text. The Creator and Admin areas, email notifications, and the content of our ready-made library topics remain English-only, and training content is not automatically translated.
In summary, only learner-facing system interface text is translated. Training content, the Admin and Creator areas, email notifications, and ready-made library topics always remain in the language they were created in.
What is translated?
Content in Tribal Habits falls into two categories:
1. System content (translated)
Fixed platform text provided by Tribal Habits. This includes:
Within a topic:
Buttons and labels (e.g. Submit, Next, Forum)
Quiz feedback (e.g. Passed, Failed)
Tabs, menus, prompts
Overview and Destination module text (if enabled for a topic)
Specific examples include:
The "Submit" button on a Q&A element
The "Failed" feedback on a quiz
The tab to select the "Forum"
The text in the Overview module explaining insights
Outside a topic:
Learner homepage interface (navigation, headings, system messages)
This content is automatically displayed in the learner’s selected language.

That said, we know that translating technical platform terminology - especially for languages less commonly used in software - is complex work, and there's always room for improvement.

Note: Tribal Habits currently supports left-to-right languages only. Right-to-left languages (such as Arabic and Hebrew) are not supported at this time.
How are user languages set?
A user’s language can be set in the following ways:
By the learner
Learners can select their own language on the Profile tab of their learner homepage. In the Settings area, they can choose their preferred language from the Preferred language dropdown.
By an admin
Manually in the Admin user profile
Via CSV import (using a two-letter language code column)
Via an integration (where supported)
Default for new users
Admins can set a default portal language for all users by navigating to Admin → Account → Subscription and selecting the preferred language using the Organisation Language dropdown under Settings.
This default will be applied automatically to new users, while existing users can be updated individually or in bulk.
How does the language setting affect the learner experience?
Learner homepage
When a learner has a language other than English selected, all system (platform) text on their learner homepage is displayed in that language. As shown in the screenshot below, a learner with their language set to Italian will see navigation labels, headings, buttons, and other interface text in Italian.
Note: The short descriptions shown for each tab on the learner homepage are managed by admins in the portal’s Brand settings. Currently, only one description can be set per page, which means this text must be entered in a single language and will appear the same for all learners, regardless of their language selection.
Topics
When a learner opens a topic and has a non-English language selected, all system content within the topic is displayed in their chosen language. This includes:
Buttons and labels
Prompts and instructions
Feedback (e.g. quiz results)
Default text
Tabs and menus
Overview and Destination module text (if enabled)
The training content itself (videos, narration, quiz questions, on-screen text, etc.) appears in whatever language it was created in. For ready-made library topics, this will be English. For your own topics, it will be the language you authored the content in.
How this creates a localised experience
The Language feature is designed to complement your own multilingual training content. It does not automatically translate your training material; it only localises the surrounding system interface.
For example, if a learner’s language is set to Italian:

Your topic content appears in the language you created it in
For a fully immersive experience, you would provide an Italian version of the topic content as well. In that case, the learner would see both:
The platform interface in Italian, and
The training content in Italian
Resulting in a consistent, end-to-end learning experience in their chosen language.
What languages can we create training content in?
You can create training content in any language, including:
Text elements
Quizzes
Video and audio uploads
Our Sage AI Narration feature, which converts text into speech, also supports many bilingual and non-English characters, allowing you to create Narration or audio files in languages other than English including French, Italian, German, Hindi, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Cantonese, Portuguese and Japanese.
Our language feature complements your non-English training content by also changing the system content.
How can we utilise the ready-made library topics in a language other than English?
Our library topics are currently available in English only. However, you can:
Copy a library topic into your portal
Translate and edit it
Assign users the matching language
Deliver a fully localised learning experience (system + content)
