'Insights' are short ‘bites of expertise’ which highlight key points or expand on core content.

Insights should be no more than a paragraph in length - like a long ‘tweet’ - and are highlighted in each topic/article.

Expand the sections below to learn more about the Insight element:

Steps to add an insight to a course

Add the element to your topic or article by selecting the 'Insight' option from the Content box, then follow these steps:

  1. Type your insight using no less than 50 characters and no more than 450 characters.

  2. Select an appropriate label to match the insight you created. This may be FAQ, Example, Mistake, Summary (as per the example above), Scenario, Alternative, Advice, or Important.

  3. Optionally format the text using the rich text editor available within the text box. You may use formatting such as bold, itallics and underline, text and text background colours, as well as bulleted or numbered lists. In addition you can hyperlink your text and add emoticons or symbols.

  4. Click Save.

Tips and suggestions

Labels

We recommend creating different types of insights which address different aspects of your knowledge - use the insight labels to help you with ideas for this. It's fun for explorers to see there are a bunch of different types of insights with differing labels.

The labels make it easy to sort through insights and understand their purpose.

Sage

When creating a topic, Sage will prompt you to create at least two insights per big point and, ideally, two different types of insights per big point. You don't have to do this, but insights are a great way to highlight key information for explorers and help break your knowledge into pieces.

Explorer journals

Explorers can favourite insights to capture them to their journal - so it's also a great way to help explorers build useful journals of valuable information.

Insight Battles!

If you have many insights in a point in a topic or article, you might also want to consider using some Insight Battles.

Insight Battles are enabled in the Section element. When you enable an Insight Battle, explorers will see a new interaction at the end of that section which shows two random insights from that point and asks the explorer to select the one most valuable to them. It's a great interaction to reinforce key content and highlight important information.

Insights Module

When enabled, the Insights module (topics only) gathers all insights from your entire topic into a single area for learners to access and review in one place. The first time an explorer accesses this module, they'll be required to complete up to four Insight Battles

Examples

Let's look at some examples of the Insight element in action.

Example - FAQs

Insights work great to highlight a frequently asked question. In this example, we put the question in italics and make bold, with the answer underneath:

Example - Scenarios and Examples

You can use Insights to highlight scenarios or examples. In this example, we use the 'Scenario' label to reinforce content.

How to view list of insights applied to a course

You are able to easily review what insights you have added to your course by navigating to Admin -> Knowledge -> Locate and select your specific knowledge and click on it's name.

Here you will find various tabs, which one of them will be 'Insights', after selecting this you will see a full list of any insights you have added.

It will provide information on the type, content, who created it and when it was created. You are also able to download the list by selecting the option at the bottom of the page.
